Vaughan Re-Signs with Wolves

The Chicago Wolves announced Thursday that defenseman Kenney Morrison has signed with the club for the 2017-18 season.

The Lloydminster, Alberta, native comes to the Wolves after spending three seasons in the Calgary Flames organization. Through 105 games between the Adirondack Flames and Stockton Heat, Morrison collected 31 points (9G, 22A) and 70 penalty minutes.

Prior to turning pro, the 25-year-old skated three seasons for the Western Michigan University Broncos. In 115 collegiate contests, Morrison registered 16 goals and 38 assists for 54 points to go with 151 penalty minutes.

Morrison joins Bryce Gervais, Scooter Vaughan and Tyler Wong under AHL contract for the 2017-18 campaign.

The Wolves will begin their 24th season on Friday, Oct. 6 in Cedar Park, Texas, against the Texas Stars. The club returns home to Allstate Arena to face the Ontario Reign for the first time in the home opener at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14.

The Chicago Wolves announced Tuesday that Scooter Vaughan will rejoin the team for a third season.

“Scooter is a respected veteran whose versatility is a big advantage for us,” said Wolves general manager Wendell Young. “He’ll help us in numerous ways again this season.”

This season will mark the 28-year-old’s fifth in the American Hockey League and third with the Wolves. Through 128 games with Chicago, Vaughan has amassed nine goals and 17 assists for 26 points.

In each of his two seasons with the Wolves, the California native began the season on defense before making the transition to forward — playing primarily on the wing.

“It’s something that I’ve done every year, something that I’ve done my whole career and I’m sure I’ll do the remainder of it,” Vaughan said. “Anywhere I can help out, I’m happy to go there.”

Prior to turning professional, Vaughan spent four seasons at the University of Michigan and helped the Wolverines capture the Central Collegiate Hockey Association championship in two of his four years.

Vaughan joins forwards Bryce Gervais and Tyler Wong as the three players signed to AHL contracts for the 2017-18 campaign. The Wolves kick off their 24th season on Friday, Oct. 6, against the Texas Stars at H-E-B Center in Cedar Park, Texas.The following weekend, the Ontario Reign visit Allstate Arena for the first time to face the Wolves in their home opener on Saturday, Oct. 14. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
