Ice Shavings...

November 7, 2016... Another month is upon us and the great hockey games being played in the desert southwest continue to grow.  After a sweep of the number 1 ranked team in the country, Minot State University the Arizona State University ACHA D1 team is the only one loss team left standing in the desert southwest and poised to do big things before this season comes to an conclusion.  In addition the Tucson Roadrunners have just one loss and UNLV has just three losses in ACHA D2 action and two of those losses came at the hands of a ACHA D1 team this weekend in Tucson.

October 23, 2016... Well hockey fans, desert southwest hockey is alive well!  Consider this, the University of Nevada-Las Vegas is currently 10-1 in ACHA D2, the Tucson Roadrunners are off to a 2-1 start and have yet to play a game in their new home and one of the best rivalries in ACHA D1 hockey is thriving between the University of Arizona and Arizona State University.  Add to the fact Grand Canyon University is in it's first season as an ACHA D2 program, Arizona State University's women's team is in it's first season in ACHA women's hockey and the Sun Devil men's hockey team is competing in their first season of a full NCAA schedule.  In addition, the NHL has a new team beginning next season in Las Vegas and women's hockey will arrive at Grand Canyon University next fall.

October 1, 2016... Hoctober has arrived and this weekend NCAA college teams begin regular season play and by the middle of the month the professional teams begin playing for real.  The newly formed American Hockey League Tucson Roadrunners will open the season on October 14th in San Diego, while the Arizona Coyotes open at home on October 15th with the Philadelphia Flyers.  This month also signifies big things in Las Vegas as the new National Hockey League team broke ground on their new practice facility and October 8th will host the first Fan Fest at the plaza outside T-Mobile Arena.

September 12, 2016...  Ok hockey fans it's finally game week!  This week kicks off our first Feature Game with the UNLV Rebels opening the regular ACHA season against San Diego State University at the Las Vegas Ice Center on Friday night.  We at Ice Time Hockey are very proud to announce two great feature series this season.  First, the new Captain O' Captain series featuring interviews with the various captains of your teams and second, the new On the Road...Off the Ice series featuring a behind the scenes look at your teams on a typical road trip. Captain O' Captain is going up on each team page this month, while the On the Road...Off the Ice series will be up one trip a month starting in October we hope you enjoy them.  Finally, if you have not listened to our weekly podcasts at get on board for some great interviews.

June 1, 2016...Welcome to the new home of hockey news, feature stories, scores and photos in the desert southwest!  After spending last year working for Ice Time Hockey SW, I decided to purchase the company and move forward with a new and improved web site!  We hope you will find this new webs site informative and enjoyable as we work to grow hockey in the desert together!  With the arrival of a new American Hockey League team in Tucson, the possibility of a native Arizonan being the first selection in the NHL entry draft and NCAA Division 1 hockey in Tempe, the desert southwest is truly becoming a hockey hotbed!  In addition, UNLV looks forward to joining D1 college hockey soon and the new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas is a state of the art facility just waiting for an NHL team.  As always we value and welcome your input and support.  Watch this space every Monday morning for all the hockey news and notes from the desert southwest.
